At The Missing Piece, we love stories, history, sustainability and treasure hunting. The loves of treasure hunting was born in the ‘tips’ (now called transfer stations or landfills) in Sydney’s North West where in the 80’s it was totally ok to take your kids to the tip and let them rummage around while you dumped the household rubbish and the tyre concealed under that household rubbish so you didn’t have to pay more. This was before a roadside rubbish service so tip trips were regular. That magic of finding something and reusing it has stayed with me. Thankfully the memory (or ignorance) of what else was amongst the treasure has not! Couple that with a career including environment and waste recovery, it results in a love of treasure hunting and reuse. That’s why we search high and low (and everywhere in between) for interesting, nostalgic and quality pieces for you . For us, the story of the piece is just as exciting as the piece itself so where possible we’ll let you know about the pieces we’ve listed. You can choose to pick up your treasure free-of-charge from our base in Chiltern in North East Victoria or we’ll pop it in the post. And because we are passionate about reducing waste, all items will be lovingly packed with reused or recycled packaging where possible.
